STDS!!

Recommended Posts

This time when my period came, it was accompanied by severe itching. I have a feeling it is because this time I used a pad instead of a tampon and the moisture plus blood caused some infection maybe? I still don't really understand completely, but the doctor gave me a cream to apply, some pills to insert and antibiotics, but I also asked for a thorough blood test to rule out anything else. The itching however continues off and on and is now around the areas surrounding the vagina and anus. I still don't know what it could be but I have a very weak immune system and the doctors often say when you are stressed, or weak chances are ph levels are distorted which cause the balance of good and bad bacteria to tilt, thus causing infections.

How am I tested for STIs?

There are many different tests for each of the different STIs. There is not one test that will screen for all STIs. Some STIs are hard to test for if you do not have any symptoms. Some STIs can be tested through blood work, urine tests, or saliva tests. Other STIs can only be tested by culturing a sample of body fluid from the penis, vagina, rectum, or open sore. If you go in for testing, it is important to talk with your medical provider about which STIs you are at risk for to determine which tests you should receive. Sometimes weeks or months need to pass to give your body enough time to develop antibodies that will show up in a test.

As for where the services are available, I'm not too sure but I reckon you could probably try your family doctor first and if they don't provide such services, I'm sure they would be able to recommend you to someone. :)

The best website is www.webmd.com, its a very useful website that discusses tips and ways of prevention. However, abstinence is the best way to protect against STDs.

No SEX No STD

what action do i need to take?

anything i can do to dont feel so pain on the lower abdomen?

This is what I found on www.netdoctor.co.uk about PID.

How does the doctor make a diagnosis?

If, in a pelvic examination, the doctor detects tenderness and perhaps even a lump next to the uterus, then PID is a possible cause. Blood tests can also be used to detect signs of infection.

Usually these symptoms and signs of infection are sufficient for the doctor to make a diagnosis of PID but, sometimes, it may be necessary to also examine the inside of the pelvis using laparoscopy to detect any inflammatory changes.

Samples are also taken from the neck of the womb to try to identify the organism responsible for the infection.

How is PID treated?

The doctor will normally prescribe antibiotics and advise the patient to keep warm and rest at home - hospitalisation is not usually necessary. In most cases, the inflammation will subside in a week or two. However, if the pain and soreness remain, this could be a sign that the infection has not gone away and might even have returned.

Fortunately, with proper treatment, this is uncommon. If Chlamydia is detected then the woman's sexual partner should also be tested. If he is infected, he will also require treatment.

What complications may arise from PID?

Even though PID is a relatively harmless condition, if it is not treated quickly and effectively, it can result in permanent damage to the Fallopian tubes. This makes it more difficult for eggs and sperm to pass through and increases the risk of infertility or an ectopic pregnancy.

If the first or subsequent episodes of inflammation are not adequately treated then the condition can become chronic. If this happens, abscesses can form in the pelvis and surgery is often required. This may involve the loss of a Fallopian tube, an ovary or, occasionally, the removal of the womb in a hysterectomy. Fortunately, most women seek advice early and treatment is prompt and appropriate.

Did the doctor in charge conducted a blood test on you? My other advice would be to see a different doctor for a second opinion. PID as stated above can be quite chronic and I hope you'll be able to seek the medical help required to ease your pain. Good luck. :)

my opinion is, if u have more than 2 sexual partner in ur life, u should check for any STIs bcoz u'll never know how many previous partner he/she encountered.sometimes, u dun even show any symptom but when u go for a checkup,u'll be suprised!

I agree with what you say, fuza. Some STIs do not show symptoms till its at its chronic stage. Therefore, its always best to play safe and get yourself checked. :)

True, weN.STD sometimes did not show any symptom at all.it's vary to every people.u might practice safe sex for ur whole life, but i woudn't know if ur partner does the same thing too.u can check for STD in govt's clinic or any O&G.usually the result in govt clinic is quite fast, and if u have problem they will refer ur case to govt hospital for minimum charge.

Well, here is a little fact to reiterate my stand that people should get tested before deciding to get sexually active with their new partners. ;)

Just read on this on Glamour mag. smile.gif

"If you've had one partner in the last year, you could be linked to up to about 20% of the ppl in your city."

A person can be easily infected with STIs whereby if one person in the network is infected, everyone who doesn't use protection could be at risk.

Women often think they are safe once they're in a relationship. They get comfortable with a new partner so they stop using condoms after about a month. You should use condoms for at least 6 months then get tested for HIV and other STIs. If you're negative at that point, you should be safe.

80% of sexually active ppl have one partner a year; about 7 percent have two and 6% have three or more. Based on those findings, one couple in a town with a population of around 4000 could be in a single year be connected to 808 others - and the STIs they may carry.

hey babes, is there a way i can get my guy checked for stds? actually we're both virgins but... you never know ma <_<

Just drag him along to either Gribbles or Pathlab. I once had a BF who told me he was a virgin. In the end, i found out that before our relationship he did a few ONS and had 2 gfs before !!!i was like WTF and got really upset and worried because we never use condoms in our relationships as i have a IUD in me. I freaked out and went for a STD and Hiv check and Gribbles and was lucky to be cleared!!

Look , im not ashamed to say it, last year my partner & i got screened for STDs & HIV. To me safer to check , then not too. Sometimes we dont know what he may have from before or if theres any hanky panky . We went to klinik bangsar south after i saw them on fb. 250 for full std test.got gardasil hpv vaccinss both of us. Go see them or any std speacialist. Worth being safe as i also read some stds like Chlamydia leads to infertility, but can be treated if caught early. I tell all my gfs to check, but not all of them can convince thier men to go check, r they scared to reveal what their wifes or gf shouldnt know. Ladies be smart & be careful esp uf u suspect somethg.
