1. Know your menstrual cycle. The best time to try for a baby is the first few days before and after your ovulation, which is about 14 days after the first day of your period (assuming your menstrual cycle is 28 days).

2. Try to conceive regularly about 2, 3 days before estimated day of ovulation. Sperm can live for up to 3 days, the ovum only about 12-24 hours. So when the egg is released, there would hopefully be sperm waiting for it.

3. I don't know how true this is, but lie down and be still for about 15-30 minutes after sperm ejaculation. This is so that the sperm does not leak out so soon.

4. Start eating vitamins and especially folic acid tablets a couple of months before trying to conceive. This helps build the optimum environment for implantation of the egg and sperm.

5. Cut down or preferably stop altogether smoking, alcohol and caffeine.

6. Don't stress about it too much! Stress will make it harder to conceive. Trust me. Just enjoy the baby making process and it will happen in due course. :)

Good luck!

There is nothing you can really do to increase your chances of getting pregnant. Except ensuring you have sex around ovulation of course. And is some cases fertility meds.

Folic acid, vitamins and a healthy diet etc are good for making sure your body is in the best condition to cope with a pregnancy, but it will do nothing in terms of making it happen.

Please bear in mind that conception is a complicated process and it can take time. You have just a 20-25% chance in any given cycle and It can take the average healthy couple 6months-1year to conceive. So if it doesn't happen right away, don't be disheartened.

Do you know when you ovulate? You are considered fertile for around 4 days before and a day after that date. If you have regular cycles ovulation should be around 2 weeks before your period is due. If you don't then you could invest in some ovulation predictor kits. Bear in mind that they only detect a LH surge and not ovulation itself so there is room for error. I think teaming this method with basal temp charting is quite a popular and successful way of tracking ovulation.
