NeO SaMuRaI 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 Babes I'll be in Melbourne this May, any good and affordable places to shop while I'm there? Thanks!Hey Cas, You'll find that Melbourne has pretty good shopping if you're into fashion, but alas most of it doesn't come too cheap, especially when you're converting RM to AUD! If you like markets, you can try Queen Victoria Market (off Elizabeth St in the city) or if you plan on hiring a car, you can try Carribean Gardens...which is open on Wednesday and Sunday, morning to aprox 3pm...and is off Ferntree Gully Rd and Stud Rd (In the Sth-Eastern Suburbs, aprox 20 - 25 mins drive from city center in off-peak traffic). As for shopping boutiques and the like, the infamous Chapel St has many of those...just walk up and down there, it also has mini-side stalls with trinkets, such as hand-made jewelry (made out of silver or stainless steel), there's also a lot of boutiques in the city, you can find them in smaller sidestreets and main streets. Try Collins St for designer labels, and check out Little Collins St for funkier, non-mainstream fare. Also, don't forget to visit Crown Casino complex, even if you don't gamble it has a few shops in there, not to mention nice cafe's and restaurants. As for shopping centres, there is a fairly big Myer/David Jones in the CBD, also Melbourne Central (these are all practically next to each other), and QV is a centre that has many shops, coffee shops and even restaurants. If you can manage to hit the suburbs, the biggest shopping centre is Chadstone Shopping Centre, which is around 15 minutes drive from the city. You can also reach there via train/bus. Chadstone is situated in the Sth-Eastern suburbs as well, its equivalent in the western suburbs would be "Highpoint", but don't bother...Chadstone has everything HP has and more... Some more major shopping centres (if you have the time) would be Knox Shopping Centre (including Knox O-Zone), and Westfield Shopping Towns, which can be found in various suburbs. Hmm, thats just off the top of my head for now, if I think of any more I'll let you know! Hope this helped...
Cas 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 NeO SaMuRaI Wow thanks a lot! That’s a lot of places to check out but I will certainly do that when I’m there. Finally booked my ticket for August 15th – 22nd to scout for a decent place to stay before we make the move. We’re staying about 1 hour away from the city so we’ll have to drive every day. What’s the cheapest car rental agency you can think of? Apparently it’s better to go there and book coz sometimes you might get good deals eg: an upgrade if they don’t have the car of your choice? Then again we’re not too sure if the Internet rates are cheaper.
Strawberrybaby 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 @.@... reading about melb gets me dizzy. I am going on Early july. trying to get cheap accommodation! gonna stay there for around 2 weeks or more... means time to save up and grab loads in melb. THE fashion city xDbut god knows why the flight ticket is increasing... 300AUD to travel from bris to melb and back. ><...btw, is travelling in melb confusing? as i will be there with my faithful ol' sister, and we are both really ditsy and all.
