  1. Hi, let's get to the basic science about SPF SPF means Sun Protection Factor using this equation. Take the time you would normally burn in the sun without protection. 20 minutes would normally produce redness on a light skinned individual. <li> Multiply that number by the SPF factor of your product. Example: with an SPF 15 X’s 20 minutes of sunburn time = 15 x 20 = 300 tells how many minutes you may stay in the sun without burning. 300 minutes divided by a 1 hour of 60 minutes = 5 hours of sun protection without sunburn. A SPF higher than 30 means it takes a longer time for your skin to burn One thing I find about SPF30+ sunscreen is the texture,it can be quite sticky. Fret not, it means you have to look harder for a good sunscreen with a desirable texture. Have fun shopping!
  2. hey! try dermalogica products.you can get the trial pack for sensitive skin. limit the time you wash ur face to one minute, if u wash too much, u ll strip off the natural skin barrier and hence irritate ur skin. Good luck:)
  3. Hi, I haven't tried the treatments done in the saloon but regular use of a very good hair mask will give you the same result. It's all about diligence. Try Keratase, the orange hair mask:)
  4. You forgot to mention that high level of Vitamin A may increase the risk of birth defect.
  5. Yes, I agree with Teff. It's important that you minimise any harsh elements to your skin. Cetaphil cleanser will be a good start. Alcohol-free toner, and depending your environment, if it's humid, use an oil free moisturiser. If it's a dry environment, use a lotion. Moisturising serves as a barrier for your skin against harsh environment. But don't overload on moisturiser as it may make your skin oily. Exfoliating is important too. For your skin, it is best to avoid scrub as it may aggravate your skin. A cream exfoliating mask may do the trick. Last but not least, if a new skincare product gives you a reaction, i.e. more blemishes the next day, stop using the product. It is a myth that "it brings out the impurities". Whoever says that obviously does not go to uni...
  6. That is quite a variety there. From La Mer to Avon. Does the price difference give significant difference? I am sure this is what other girls in this forum is eager to know
  7. I know this topic has been discussed before but we need some updates here. So many new products come into the market over a year. If you said you like Biotherm eye gel 2 years ago, you may have found a better one recently. Share with the others what is your favourite eye moisturiser, eye care, eye mask, eye gel, anti-ageing eye cream etc over the years! If you think eye care is unnecessary, we want to hear from you too! My most recent favourite eye care is: Moisture defence antioxidant eye cream I cant live without eye cream, morning and night, keeps my eye area hydrated.
  8. Hey, it depends where you are shaving. For legs and arms I prefer the female version razor (the kind with shea butter and moisturising stuff), for upper lip, I use small pieces of wax strip. All can be bought from Watson. I used the hair removal cream when I was in high school, i find it very messy.
  9. Hi, I definitely cut down my expenses but a girl can't give up shopping totally right? At down times like this, I am more cautious of how I spend. When the economy is good, you can buy 1 handbag+ 1 pair of shoes + 1 lipstick. When times are bad, you have to make a choice. You can only buy one item, choose the item that you most desired. Sales are not attractive when the economy is down. Even if it is a sale item, I still have to pay money right? I go shopping less nowadays. When I have free time, I will think of something else to do that doesn't cost that much eg cooking a nice dinner (still cheaper than eating out), do a makeover for my friend etc....
  10. Hi Hi, your hair, dressing, make up will definitely portray your personality and convery the message you want to give to other people. If you love the tanned look and blonde hair, go for it! But the society has stereotype about this look. Look, honestly, can you take a lawyer seriously if she has tanned look and blonde hair? Forget about Legally Blonde, that's movie! I totally embrace the idea of doing what you love, I don't care if you want to look Gothic. But you have to bare in mind that people may give you weird stares or whatever. But when it happens, don't say I did not warn you:)
  11. Hi, I have not tried the entire range of Origins but the Hydrating mask is really good, it's such a fantastic product to use right before an event/dinner. It makes your skin hydrated and when you put on make up after that, Voila! Origins is not 100% natural. If budget is not a major issue for you, I defenitely suggest you to try Jurlique, very natural and organic! If you read the ingredient list, it is 100% made up of plants, fruits, herbs. Even the most sensitive skin can tolerate that. The price can be shocking at first, but the products can last you more than 8 months. The price you pay is still cheaper than the monthly visit to the beauty salon.
  12. Hey, first of all, I would like to clarify that it is not true that sensitive skin should avoid make up. Having sensitive skin only means you have to work harder to find the right cosmetics that suit your skin.Your major investment will be a very good foundation, clearly that is the product that is going to be all over your face. I know financial budget can be an issue, but if possible, buy your foundation from a well-established cosmetic company, such as Clinique. They have an extensive shade for foundation and various formulations. Because you have sensitive skin, I strongly suggest you to ask the Clinique counter girl to guarantee you a refund IF your skin reacts badly to the product. Write down her name, the days she work. This is also a reason why I suggest you to go to well-established cosmetic counter because you can go back to the counter girl if there is any problem. Also, I find that most people who choose their own foundation at Watson/Guardian often get the shade wrong. So, it is always a good idea if you get someone professional to get your shade right. I am using Clinique as an example but you are welcomed to try out other reputable brands like Lancome, Estee Lauder etc. As a side note, make up is supposed to enhance your beauty not to cover up. Of course every girl needs make up, especially when the pimples pop up at the wrong time! Hope this reply helps:)
