MichaelEarl 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2013 Hello Members, Charleston-style homes features grand, symmetrical exteriors, are constructed of wood, airy with high ceilings, and have characteristically large and deep front porches, usually built of wood. The windows are large and usually louvered shutters made of wood which help with the hear and allow air to come in while still providing a certain level of privacy. The walls are usually made of brick of stucco with colonnades across the sides and back of the house. The roof of a Charleston-style home is pitched or gabled and is usually tall and often has dormer windows, which are windows that protrude from the plane of a sloping roof. Most Chaleston-style plans have side yards rather than front yards and are usually two or three stories high. The interiors of both types of homes include a grand staircase, elaborate cornices and large rooms that are well lit and well ventilated.
