To Open a Childcare Center:

Recommended Posts

Hello Community,

About 12 million children spend their days at a childcare center while parents are working, according to Childstats.gov. Each state has specific requirements for childcare centers.

Inquire about ratio requirements. Each state has different adult-to-child ratios. Talk with your state's Department of Licensing to learn about ratios in your state. Based on this information, decide how much space is needed to accommodate the number of children you wish to serve. Contact a leasing agent to assist with finding an appropriate space.

Complete state course requirements. Some states require that childcare center owners complete a state-sponsored course. Each state's course is different; however, typical information covered will include state daycare laws, child-abuse prevention and mandatory child-abuse reporting. Contact the state Department of Licensing to schedule a course.

Fill out a childcare center application. Applications can be obtained from the state licensing department. Typically, consent to a background check is also required. The background check will ensure you don't have criminal convictions or appear on the national sexual offender list.

Thanks and Regards,
