Kerala is a lovely place to be at while holidaying. It is famous for its beaches, hill stations, wild life, backwaters, temples and many other picturesque places. Among the many hill stations in Kerala, Munnar resorts are much sought after during holidays. The other hill stations are Idukki, Kannur, Kozhikode, Ponmudi, Vagamon and Wayanad.

Idukki is a popular hill station which is situated in the Southern part of Kerala and is encircled by the Western Ghats in the East. It derives its name after the Malayalam word ‘Idukku’ which means a narrow gorge. Situated at about 2500 feet above sea level, it is nestled among the low hills of a reserve forest. Idukki covers an area of 5019 sq.km. The major attractions here are the elephant rides during which one gets to see the beauty of the nature, visiting wild life sanctuaries, forest, spice plantation and the exploration of the wilderness of the beautiful place. Adventurous tourists can have a lot of fun as many regions of this place are unexplored due to lack of interference of modernity.

Kannur is another famous hill station that also houses the well known Pythal Mala hill, which is 65 km from the city. The Pythal Mala hill is situated at an elevation of 4500 ft above sea level and is situated near the Kerala-Karnataka border. Tourists fond of trekking can have fun here while trekking the significant distance of 6km which is covered with greenery and teeming with the rare varieties of flora and fauna. Another tourist attraction named Ezhimala, at a distance of 55km from Kannur town, is a prominent huddle of hills. There is a cave and an old burial chamber at the foot of the hill. A little further up the hills is an ancient mosque that has beautiful sculptured stone pillars. A beach adds more beauty to this place
