to tone or not to tone? [opinion needed]

Recommended Posts

hi, i'm kinda new here xD

so recently i've taken an interest in beauty eventhough in all these 19 years i've been living i've never paid much attention to my skin. but during the last few months, i've been taking some steroids (prednisolone, if you're wondering) and the condition of my skin has worsened after that. it becomes dry and sometimes itchy but scarry from occasional acnes.

so, i try the organic aid mosturising cream and the facial foam but i've been reading in magazines that it's important to use toner after cleansing but i don't know if it's that important you know. i don't like to fuss over my skin so i just skip the toning ritual because organic aid products don't include toners btw.

so, my questions are:

1) do i have to use toner?

2) if i have to, what kind would be the most suitable? i don't want to change my facial cleanser and my mosturising cream though because i like organic aid so much. and yeah, i think i have sensitive skin.

thank you for your time to read my rant (and questions). /throw hearts at you xD Edited by iuneee

Basically toner is a lotion, generally in a clear liquid form that needs to be applied all over the face, usually using a cotton pad. It is designed to remove impurities from your skin, shrink pores and help keep the shine and oil at bay.
One of the reasons why toners are recommended is because they help to remove excess make up, oil and other impurities left behind by your cleanser.
Toner also gets your skin back it's PH level and prepares it for moisturizing. Besides, one other great plus of toner is they usually instantly freshen up your skin!

Well any kind of steroids are harmful for our skin. We should never take steroids without prescription of a nutritionist. Coming on to your problem I don't thing you have to use toner. Try Aveeno daily moisturizing lotion, It's completely natural. Edited by kouroshparham

I think a good toner is vital. But i noticed some toners, even though they are marketed as hydrating, can contain drying and irritating ingredients (like alcohol) and if your skin is already dry, they’ll make it worse. So i think you need to try out to find the best suits you.

For me, i can't live without toner. I noticed that my skin really became much softer and clearer over some time. I hv been using Monrose soothing toner for my oily skin for couple of years. Still feel great! :kid:

I have sensitive skin too and i use toner by hada labo. I find that toner helps serum/moisturiser absorbed more easily. makes sure u also use a cleanser that doesnt strip dry your skin.

Soothing toner fr MONROSE is great! I love applying this toner so much I actually look forward to using it after washing my face! It feels so good on my skin and during the hot days when its really hot, I stick it in the fridge and when I spray it on, it is so cooling and refreshing. It may be a little pricey but it lasts really long since you spray it and don't have to pour it on a cotton pad or anything! This toner is definitely one of my favorite Mnrose products!!

Depends on your skin condition actually. If you have dry skin, tone only 2-3 times a week as toning can help make your skin drier. If you have oily skin, you can tone everyday but not more than twice a day.

Definitely tone. It closes the pores and locks out dirt.

Go for non-alcohol or fragrance free toners. They are a lot more gentle on the skin.

I use it every day before makeup and before I put on my rosehip oil to sleep.

Tone is definitely better! i m using toner from Monrose (bought it online) for many years. 1 thing good about it is, it made me feel like i did not apply anything and yet very mositurizing for skin. Light and soft. unlike many brands that always give me sticky or heavy feeling.
