I am looking for recommendations for acne cream or gels or any types of acne medication (not orally). I have acne prone skin with pimples, whiteheads and blackheads. So I have to use acne creams/gels all the time to prevent and heal the acne.

What I have used before:
1. Aiken tea tree oil- I think it is quite good in preventing and healing my pimples.
2. T3 pimple gel- Used to be my HG pimple gel until it stopped working for me. I was a faithful user for about 2 years.
3. Oxy 5 and Oxy 10-Used to work miraculously but stopped working when my skin became too sensitive because they burnt and stung my skin badly.
4. Monrose Purifying Lotion-It works if I use it twice a day every single day. I find it not working on me after I have used it for a certain time period. Too expensive to maintain in the long run so I am looking for cheaper alternatives.
5. Artistry Blemish Gel-Does an okay job in preventing pimples.

Thinking of asking for more recommendations to find my HG one. I would prefer one with salicylic acid instead of benzoyl peroxide because the latter stung me badly leaving me with raw, sensitive skin. Best if it is under RM50 smile.gif Thanks.

U can give body Shop tea tree oil/10ml a try (rm25)-1 bottle will roughly last u for about 3-5 months with regular usage.Note:Its texture is liquid-like.Contains 15% of pure tea tree oil
Or
Body Shop tea tree blemish stick/5ml(rm29)-its similar to the body shop tea tree oil execept that this one is gel-based and comes together with a spong applicator.Last about 1.5 months @ most with regular use.The concentrations of tea tree oil is greatly reduced if compare with tea tree oil

Or Clean&clear pimple gel(below rm 20,check out guardian, they have 20 % discounts for the clean&clear range when u donate rm 2 for their charity card bonanza programme).Contains salicylic acid.
Even the acne facial wash also works great on acne ridden skin cos it contains salicylic acid, yet mild enough.I accidently used the clean & clean acne cleanser, which I get from Watsons when Iforgot to bring mine when I travel last month.Suprisingly, works well with my skin, didnt stug my skin as I thought it would.Price is about rm 6,50 for the small travel tube while rm 10.50 for large size.

Used to use the oxy pimple cream when i was very young but as far as I remembered, it makes my pimples got worst.I m not too sure of any improvement to the cream or not because dare not use it anymore.
Tried body shop tea tree oil before but it doesnt work at all. even use the whole set of skin care range last itme.
Then tried the garnier pimple gel, not working either but it make the surface dry.
used herbaline pimple cream, it cant subside the pimple /acne but i use it to cover the reddish pimple because the cream is white color
Recently using the actizen ampoule. find it not bad as it dries up my pimples in 1 week maximum. normally 3-4days. but i does use along with their purifying essence and refining gel which I find a good combination to bring out my hidden acne smile.gif

Eh, I use the aiken tea tree cleanser before when I was a student. smile.gif

I have never thought of Clean and Clear before because I have used their cleanser before and they don't work for me. Anyway, since you recommended the pimple gel, I shall go and have a look thanks smile.gif

Yea, I thought to try out the Herbaline one too, an acquaintance told me that it is fantastic. Seems like you have a negative review on it though sad.gif But the actizen one need to buy so many products at once, I have already those essence and gel stuffs from other brands.

If you have friends/relative in Australia or any other countries with extensive Neutrogena products, do get the Rapid Clear 8 hours Spot Gel. It really works even on stubborn, headless pimples. It's a very small tube, cost me AUD11 when I bought it last year..I still have 3/4 left coz I hardly use it..only apply it to tough/stubborn zits smile.gif Do give it a try! * Highly recommended*

u can also buy pure tea tree oil from Guardian pharmacy. Use a cotton bud to dip and apply onto pimple after applying moisturiser. This works very well for me as salicy acid and benzo makes my skin peel, red and itchy. Whatever you do please don't try Proactive. It is very strong and makes skin very sensitive

I am seriously interested in this product too when I saw it over the Internet but too bad I am always in Malaysia. Maybe I should take a look at sprees! Maybe they are spreeing for neutrogena products too.

I have tried and used the Aiken brand one smile.gif Yup, heard that Proactive works on some but is really harsh on the others.

I think her face is acne ridden cos of her hectic lifestyle, always jet around >.< Its the cabin air that causes havoc to her skin to go haywire.
Even the Geisha facial she uses dont help her much.Poor thing.
Should be alrught for me I think cos I dont have pimply face.I have them normally when its close to my menses week.Since I have porcelain skin, any blemish on my face looks very obvious wacko.gif

I have checked out all the ingredient list for the above recommended products and I can say most of them contains alcohol. Since I am using them for acne prevention purposes instead of killing them when they appear, I will be using these acne creams/gels every single day. Won't the alcohol content be bad for my skin then?

Alcohol in acne/blemish treatments acts to kill bacteria deep within the pores. Hence like its name denotes, acne gel is more of an SOS treatment & isnt supposed to be applied onto skin daily like normal skincare. Only to be applied onto "imminent" or active zits. There are many other ways for acne prevention instead of using acne gel on a daily basis, which will undoubtedly dry out your skin in no time!

I have been using acne lotion as a prevention method for years and my skin has never looked better. Before this, I only apply the gel whenever my skin acts up but new acne always appear aftre the old one is killed by the gel/cream, until a few beauty consultants ask me to apply acne cream/gel on affected areas everyday. That's why I started to include this in my beauty routine.

I didn't know that the alcohol are actually to kill the bacteria. Thanks for the information Teff smile.gif What other prevention methods? I have practised nearly everything I can but to no avail sad.gif

Another preventive method is that monthly facial maintainence should help ur skin.Just make sure u dont skip ur facial appointment.
If u make up,then remember to remove the make up throughly before u go to bed no matter how tired ur

Well, if it works for you then by all means continue. But then again, the alcohol content in most acne creams/gels are too strong as they are made for the purpose of zapping bacteria on the spot quickly and effectively - hence would be too drying for the skin. That's why I would not use it like a daily skin care product, except for when I am treating a pimple or several zits at one time.

As for other types of prevention...maybe u can use a toner specifically designed for acneic skin, for eg; Biotherm's Acnopur or Lancome's Matifying Purifying Lotion. These types of toners would help to absorb access oils from the skin and prepare it for moisturization. It would contain a small amount of antiseptic/salicylic acid etc to help prevent the onset of acne.

Another mode of prevention is, undoubtedly, the need to invest in a good skin supplement, drinking loads of water throughout the day, eating more fruits and vege. Cliche, but it works. smile.gif

I couldnt agree more with doll! smile.gif A monthly facial is a must. And yes, cleansing the face prior to retiring every night is a must. However, limit facial cleansing to twice per day. Excessive washing may cause an imbalance to the skin.

I used to go for monthly facials until I realise I could not afford it anymore although I only go for those affordable RM40-50 per sessions ones sad.gif I always do double cleansing at night so this should not be a problem smile.gif

Right now I am using the Monrose one which does not contain alcohol, that's why it dosn't dry out my skin. But it is definitely too expensive for me to maintain using it in the future. Thanks for the suggestions of using toners instead! Why didn't I think of it earlier doh.gif I tried zinc and vitamin supplements, I drink at least 3 litres of water per day and usually do not skip on fruits and vegetables. I can say I am one of those health freak. But still, only these good habits alone doesn't help. Pimples still keep sprouting without acne cream/ gel.

Hi Cherish, the NuSkin Clear Action set targetted for present pimples, future pimple and for pimple scars consists of foaming cleanser, toner, day treatment and night treatment and all these four items include salicylic acid. Cheers!

Yeah monthly facials are quite expensive, though it is beneficial in the long run. What I would suggest is a DIY mask done once a week or so apart from your normal skincare routine. You can try the aspirin mask or egg mask etc. There are alot of those DIY mask tutorials in Youtube. For my case, I have the ocassional zits every once in a while, not serious acne though, and these masks have helped prevented them. Not 100% entirely but there is a considerable change. I tried most of the products you listed but unfortunately most of them don't have any effect on my zits. Also, you can try using toners for acne i.e. Aiken toner with tea tree oil. (under RM10 if not mistaken) So prevention is better than cure smile.gif Try the masks and hope it helps~!

(under RM10 if not mistaken) So prevention is better than cure smile.gif Try the masks and hope it helps~!

long time nvr visit here....yaya i m using da clay mask i bought frm pharmacy.St.ives wan.it is cheap n nice.act for pimples tht grow occasionally durin menses rite,i recommend da blemish stick by da body shop made frm tea tree oil.Herbal remedies are alwaiz betta den chemical ones such as benzoyl peroxide. And da good news is tht tea tree oil alwaiz has similar effect lite b.peroxide:)

Abt salicylic acid, topical antibiotics solution tht contains -mycin in it(eg.clindamycin)they are alwaiz second line treatment.when b.peroxide n tea tree oil has no effect on stubborn pimples.but if ur pimples is nt whole face wan,den b.peroxide n tea tree oil may b a choice.

anotha vry good method to make skin visibly smoother:use 'gula pasir'(vry vry fine sugar frm da shop),put on ur palm n put lil bit of water in......n rub it thr ur face.wash it off ,n u will find tht ur skin gets smoother n vry clean.den u can continue with ur skin care routine which is toner and moisturise.I m currently practising it.one day once which is b4 sleeping:)

Anyone tried the Acne.org skincare regimen? There're lots of positive reviews, but I have yet to try it!

Speaking of pimple creams...I only used oxy, and that was when I was 12 years old. Now, I don't apply anything on my pimples...I have no idea what to use, and I'm afraid of aggravating it further.

A user at another forum recommends using just Cetaphil cleanser followed by benzoyl peroxide 2.5 %.

For the egg mask, just beat the egg white until it gets frothy, then apply it to your face for 10-15 minutes and wash off. Followed by your usual skincare routine.

Other preventative measures are applying a clay mask only to the pimple prone area 3 times a week or using skincare specifically for acne during the morning, and using your prefered skincare line at nite (i.e hydrating/ whitening etc) I have been practicing this recently, by using a cleanser/toner/moisturiser (for acne care) in the morning and a hyrating line at nite and glad to say that it helps in prevention.

Lastly, if you don't mind the high cost, maybe you can try skin supplements smile.gif

gingerbreadwoman: The fine sugar method sounds great ! I'll definitely try it. I like knowing that there are cheap ways for good skincare smile.gif

I have tried the method from another forum(Cetaphil and BP2.5%). Cetaphil is great for my sensitive skin but BP 2.5 % totally stings and burns my skin.

I occasionally do the white egg mask a few times in a year when I like because I thought it was for whitening!!! Now I know it helps in preventing blemishes, I will try do it more often.

I use clay mask twice a week, maybe I can increase it to three times a week. And the morning acne care abd prefered skincare line at night sounds great smile.gif

I have tried investing in vitamins and zinc but they don't help much. Now trying to consume pearl powder since I heard that it is great for skin.

Altenative for white sugar is brown sugar, as this will remove the dead skin as well...some boil the brown sugar and apply as mask...

Pure tea tree oil may not work for some it is too mild...Can try acne products that contains AHA...a mild one to try is Therepeutic Dermatologic Formula's AHA Lotion, the glygolic acid level is low compared to those in the market...it helps on those tiny bumps and stubborn whiteheads, but it takes longer time...

My experience with differin is it is quite mild too, didnt dry off my skin, and this is not a miracle cream as well, you need to apply for quite sometime only to see the effect, do remember to apply this only at night...
