Facials at beauty centres

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to share my experience with everyone and give a little insight on whats going on.

I've had bad skin since my school days and it became worst when I started working like 7 years back. I had tried almost all of whats in the market like Olay, Garnier, Tea Tree, Bodyshop, Johnson&Johnson, Biore, Neutrogena, Monrose, Cellnique, Clarins, Vichy and you name it!

After trying almost everything and it didn't work, I decided to use Proactiv. Yes it worked! I had wonderful skin for at least a year then it started all over again. This time I tried Leonard Drake ie Dermalogica. I signed up for 15 facials and spent almost 4k for it with products as well. It was hopeless. After 15 session, the condition of my face did not improve. So I didn't want to sign up for a second package. I instead went to Murad. Same thing. Product didn't suit me and wasted a lot of money on the products. I didnt even see any difference.

So I decided I would choose 1 of the 4 options I had. Sign up for the second time for the next Murad package, see a skin specialist, go to New York Skin care or turn back to Proactiv. At the same time, I was taking Nuvafemme. One pill daily.

I thought, since I've tried everything, why not try New York Skin care! So I went for the first time free trial last week. Indeed I found it to be quite ok and till to date no breakout caused by it. However I am totally shocked at the way the sell their packages.

There's this pushy and pushy and pushy feeling that they give you. My consultant was trying soooooooooooo hard that I finally gave in to buying 5 bottles of oily/acne skin ampules worth RM900 that's supposed to speed up the scar healing process which is also antiseptic (antiseptic is the best thing for acne).

She asked me for my credit card a few times and when I told her it might be maxed out already, she said 'nevermind lah I will just try'. So if she just tries and it goes through, you JUST sign is it??

Please people learn your lesson. If you're going for the trial, leave the cards at home!! Just bring cash about RM30 because they will pester you to put a down payment of at least RM50!

Unless you don't mind being blacklisted by them, then just say thank you and walk out. She said I needed a 20 facial package at RM350 per facial. OH MY GAWD!! I almost fainted. RM7000??

This is real nonsense as my friend was forced to sign up and she only paid RM1800 for 12 facials. At the same outlet!! And she was recommended the same exact programme. Another friend of mine after much forcing, only signed up for 4 facials and she paid RM650.

The girl also told me that since I'm a newly registered customer, I and entitled to 20 free mineral mask and 20 free treatment booster but have to sign up on the same day or I will loose out on the offer. If I wanted it, I have to pay deposit RM500 to hold the offer.

What?? That's it? No 30% discount? Nothing? Maybe I should have not walked in with my Jimmy Choos and Louis Vuitton. 2 branded stuff in my wardrobe does not qualify me as a tai-tai.

So back to my story, I have been using clinique 1,2,3 for the past 2 months and touch wood, no miserable breakouts. Just the one two period ones or when I eat too much oily food.

I have seen a doctor who does all the vitamin C injections and skin peeling and that sort. He's a very nice doctor. He told me that the most important thing is to detox. So he recommended the Japanese detox drink (the plum one, can't remember the name already). It's RM69.90 for 6 bottles and it's a 6 day programme.

It's one thing to use the right skin care but it's also another thing for your internals to be cleansed. Now, I'm just on Clinique 1,2,3 and detox regularly. The results? Amazing and no false hope.

Just my two cents worth.

HHmm..my current holy grail is Murad.

I'm contemplating going for their facial as well. maybe, different products work for different ppl.

At least, one thing i'm sure, they are not that horrible like those ppl in new york skin solution.

NY skin solution is the same as Ultimate Impression. And, the ppl in UI are just as pushy. I bet you are not the only one who has experienced that. My friends hate the ppl there. Neither do I. But, usually, I'll just wear as ugly, and low class as possible when I go there. So they'll just give me what I want, and not persuade me to buy anything else.

Oh, just a friendly recommendation here to you.

Hey Glacialy,

I bought 5 ampules because antiseptics are good and oh well, just to shut her up. She was pushing for me to buy 10 ampules at RM180 each, saying that if I were to buy 10, I could buy another 5 for RM120.

I think people should response to this and let everyone know whats going on. Why isn't this things fixed? Like Murad, I understand, there's black and white prices. The consultant shows you the packages and the customizes it for each individual. When I asked NYS for their package listings, the had none.

So, it's up to the consultants to push their products and services to us?? A bit ridiculous isn't it.

Be fair lah. If A pays RM1800 for 10 facials then B,C,D to Z should also pay RM1800 for the exact same thing A has taken right?

Hey girls,

I normally go to sothy's and i find them pretty professional. They are not pushy and would as usual suggest the products that are needed but would not push u to sign up the packages or purchase the products.

On a second thought i nearly tried NYC out of curiosity but luckily i read the thread.

Cheers

Hi, i juz like to gv my advice : Don't ever let ur beautician use needle to prick/ poke ur acnes (esp those without heads). I had a vy bad experience wt dermalogica (believe it or nt!). Those needle pricking/poking technique in order to discharge the pus/ dig out the blackheads/whiteheads/ etc had caused pitted scars on my face. Imagine that i hv spent rm2 K in exchange for a face wt severe scars and they stil pushed me to sign up course for microdermabrasion (MD) for another rm2.8K. Later i went to consult dermatologist n she told me that my scars are difficult to cure by MD coz it's vy deep..So, gals, pls bkful n don't trust beautician completely (of course not every beautician is like that la :-) ) Juz i dun wish other plp to be regret like me now.

True, and in fact Murad's facials do not consist of extraction.

Would also like to update all on my new quest which is detoxing and sticking to Clinique's 1,2,3. So far, it's been good. Although I'm extremely sad that my scars will take ages to heal.
