SOAP - Your friend or enemy?

Recommended Posts

Hi all! :) Most of us have sensitive skin...but the key thing is how much effort do we put into taking care of our skin. One of my friends totally can't touch soap cos her hands will get red, itchy very fast. I've read about similar cases in the forums, and sometimes it's really quite complicated. Aren't these soaps mild enough? And if they're mild, how come I'll still get the same rashes?

TO ALL MYB Babes, I need a favour

1) how do you determine what kind of soap is suitable to be used on your body?

2)What kind of information do I need in order for me to buy soap that i can use on sensitive skin?

3) and what happens if the costs are too high? where else can i look?

All comments are welcomed! :)

well, i have sensitive skin too..i cant use those brands such as Lux etc coz my skin will feel very dry and rough then i'll get rashes on my skin after using it for only 1 day... so i've been using body shampoo fr baby's brands such as johnson & johnson and anakku..both work find for me . I'v also use AESEPSO soap which cost only Rm2.50 per bar and its green in colour..its not available at pharmacies and i only found it at tiny shops..I dun really rmbr specifically what the soap is for but its a soap specially made for some skin prob one..its not bad.. feel very clean after using it. But Dove doesnt suits me though it claim to gv soft n smooth skin..(well doesnt matter..i wan for delicate like baby soft skin ..hahaha)

1) i think u have to experiment around 1st. But starting with baby range are quite safe i can say..or eucerin/eubos.. if u still get rashes fr this i thk u better not try those lux kind (even if its stated mild!) If u get rashes fr using certain brands then stop. Buy small bottles for trial 1st.

2) Actually i have a habit of reading the ingredients so that i can compare and maybe eliminate chemicals that are in common n look for another brand without that chemical. Usually it is stated sumwhr on the bottle its "benefits" ..so i thk u jz need to read up on the info provided.

3) If cost to high like i said....compare the ingredients and see whtr u can find other brand with similar contents or not lo... tt's all i can think of..haha

oh rmbr to apply body lotion right after shower lo so that it can lock ur body moisture on ur skin..

Go organic. Dont buy soaps with harsh ingredients like SLS. Look for soaps with pure and natural ingredients (the best is always plant based). Even shea/cocoa butter isnt actually good for the skin. Good for hair? Maybe. Also dont congest your skin with soaps containing silicone. There are lotsa organic soap/bath gel shops out there. And like entwinetwin has mentioned, get to know your skin, get into the habit of reading ingredients on the packages before buying.

I have sensitive skin too, even on my body can easily get "skin blemish and acnes". but I found the cyleina soap series work on me, since it's 100% organic made from natural ingredients like rice bran, tomato, papaya, grapeseed and so on. it even cure my backacne problem which even skin specialist formula cant work. well, also bcz it's organic, it melts very fast in hot bathroom. :wub:

Hi,

My bf have sensitive skin too. He has very serious dry skin and often complained very itchy. So I shop around in the internet and get natural soap for him. Already try some US, natural organic handmade soap. Things turn better now. The soap is not expansive but the shipping from US to here (more expansive than the soap happy.gif ). I read from article in the internet, the reason why commercial soap (such as Lux soap etc) are so drying is because the remove the Retained Gylcerine from the soap and sell at premium price for those cosmetic use and a result, the soap is just as a by-product. shocking.gif

See this for detail

i am using soap regularly,basically after exercise~it is small and convenient, and i dont have to put too many things inside my bag~i like dettol soap and lux soap,but the weakness is they normally dried up my skin but it is quite ok since i am only using it once or twice a week,no big deal~and i love the scent too,much better than body shampoo,soap makes me feel that i am really clean which is stg shampoo cannot do..i actually dislike the 'layer' feeling of body shampoo especially after exercise,it makes me feel that i am still dirty,hehe..

*guys sweat a lot compare with gals,so i think most guys at here have a same feeling too*

1) how do you determine what kind of soap is suitable to be used on your body?
I luv to use SLS free body cleanser.
Even though i dun have problem with normal soap/body cleanser, but i prefer to use non SLS body cleanser for my whole family use
Skin less dehydrated n more moisturise
Even since i bought Eucerin Body Liquid Cleanser, i don turn back..i will carry the cleanser as i travel
once i use other soap, i felt my skin dry and uncomfortable

2)What kind of information do I need in order for me to buy soap that i can use on sensitive skin?
Check out those info SLS Free. Try Eucerin Body Cleanser, Sebamed Liquid wub.gif

3) and what happens if the costs are too high? where else can i look?
The price will be a bit pricey from normal soap. Once u try it..u will like it
after all i cant leave without it

I just bought a soap from the web (from Malaysia) http://www.natural2nature.com ~ Healing Lavendar~. It smell superb, love it very much. It is not fragrance oil but Essential Oil. For those soap lover, I think worth giving it a try. It is something different from those natural soap I bought earlier. It does not dry out the skin. It smell good and look good thumbup1.gif

I think most of the handmade soap are mild and suitable for sensitive skin. The reasons people go for natural handmade soap are because they are mild (suitable for sensitive), safe to use (free from dangerous chemical because they made of natural ingredients) and soap bar is the traditional way of making soap (before the introduction of shower gel/cream with chemical ingredients).

I have tried a few natural soaps, they are :-
 1. Yuen Soap (can be obtained in most of the organic store in Malaysia)
 2. Natural Origin Soap (can be obtained in most of the organic store in Malaysia)
 3. Fraiche Soap (certified organic+goat milk soap from US, is expansive especially include the shipping to Malaysia shocking.gif http://www.myfraiche.com)
 4. Pure Essense Soap (from Australia, they are selling online in Malaysia now http://www.natural2nature.com)

Hi,

SLS/SLES in shampoo and body wash/soap will cause contact dermatitis (skin allergy on hands/palms). I have this problem since I was a kid, but only found out the cause of my skin problem few years back. Dermatologist has advised me to wear glove for bath, is it something wrong with our personal care?
There are more and more chemicals in our personal care today, please stop using products contain these harmful chemicals and you will notice the improvement after few days.

Go for natural or organic products to save guard your health!

Hey Gals
Here I want to share with your some soap information:
Most soap contains chemical additives, and many are made with tallow produced from animal fat. Take a look at the ingredients listed on the soaps you regularly purchase. How many are natural, and what ingredients do you recognize? Can you find out what they do?

Indochine Natural handmade soaps are very different from these chemical soaps. Being handmade from natural vegetable oils, natural glycerin is retained in the soap which helps restore moisture to your skin. Beneficial ingredients such as pure essential plant oils and various herbs are used to produce soap that smells good, is mild on the skin, and leaves your skin clean. Those with sensitive skin will appreciate the mildness of Indochine Natural soaps.

The benefits of using natural handmade soaps include;

· Synthetic chemicals and petrochemicals are not used;

· No animal testing and the soap is biodegradable;

· Eco-friendly as they are made entirely by hand using very little energy;

· A cold process is used to make the soap, which retains the natural benefits of all ingredients.

For dry and sensitive skin you can use " No fragrance" and " Rose Geranium"

Rose Geranium: The fragrance of Geranium is floral, sweet, earthy, and for many aphrodisiacal. The geranium essential oils are known for their antibacterial and antifungal properties, and as an aid to relaxation and mood swings.

We super fat this soap to 7%, which provides a particularly mild and moisturizing soap suitable for all skin types, and especially those with dry skins.

Ingredients: Elaeis guinensis (Palm Oil), Cocos nucifera (Coconut Oil), pure Aqua (water), Sodium Hydroxide, Pelargonium graveolens (Rose Geranium) essential oil.

No fragrance: An all-natural soap without any added fragrances. With a rich and luxurious lather this soap cleans gently as it moisturises. The combined coconut and palm oils produce a slight earthy fragrance of their own.

This soap is especially suited to those with sensitive and dry skins. Using coconut and palm oil, this hypoallergenic soap is made using a traditional cold-press method and allowed to cure for one month. As a result the natural glycerine produced during this process remains in the soap and therefore provides the ability to gently cleanse and nourish the skin. We super fat this soap to 10% which provides more natural glycerine than other soaps, which makes it particularly mild and moisturising, and perfect for cleansing facial skin.

Ingredients: Elaeis guineensis (Palm) oil, Cocos nucifera (Coconut) oil, pure Aqua (water), Sodium Hydroxide

No Fragrance also can be call as " baby soap". Currently my 7 and half months old baby is using it for her sensitive skin.

Gals, all the information of the natural handmade soap you can find out in my website: www.oatz.com.my and also FaceBook at oatztrading@yahoo.com

The products are available in the Malaysia market Look at our website under the " retail outlet"

Hope those information are helpful.:)

I just make my own soap :) So much cheaper :) I use SLS free soap base from Craftiviti and mix in my own natural oils and essential Oils.

I'd like to try cold process one day but I don't have the license to buy lye and it's pretty dangerous to use.

I have tried making my own soap using melt and pour type, easy to DIY and SLS and SLES free, so its so safe on the skin.  I have been using it for 2 years, very hydrating and moisturizing.  Used to get from Green Herbology, as theirs are good quality and reasonably priced.  Should try.
