1. Great Work, TheWannaBe!! You have the potential of becoming a food photographer :takepicture:   I usually do not read lots of magazines or follow-up on how clients uses my work. I was in the airport lounge recently with my sisters, niece and nephew having b'fast when I casually flipped open this travel magazine and saw my work in use.   Nice! The lounge management also allowed me to keep the magazine too. Big Thanks to them and Cheers, everybody.

3. I am very pleased with the performance of this image. At this time of writing, in under two weeks this image has taken the number one position (popular rating) out of 6,738 apple pie commercial available images in one of the world's top three (and toughest) agencies and I'm competing with some top notch photographers from Europe and America. Much appreciation to all involved. Yipeeee! I'm going out to celebrate this event with a teh tarik! 4. Yes, that's Chicken Curry Mee found at the Sungei Maong Wet Market's hawker's center, Kuching on the first floor. The stall operator's name is Pauline. She's got Bidayuh and Chinese parentage. It was the first decent curry mee I found after I got back in Kuching. Nice curry gravy with a slighly strong spicy tang with a generous serving of ingredients. RM3.50. Only available on Saturday and Sundays. Sells out very fast usually by 9.00 in the morning. I found another very nice curry mee outside town, operated by a Bidayuh lady. Creamy and very well rounded... my favorite curry mee. No photos yet as I have to be travelling up that direction to do so. This one is the best I have tasted in Kuching so far. RM4.00 for regular... very good value for money, very consistent :-). She has got Mee Rubus too. Not too bad but I prefer the Mee Rubus (breakfast only) in Carpenter Street, Kuching made by an old Malay man. Unfortunately, he is a little inconsistent as he has an erratical operational timetable. Eating his Mee Rubus is a hit-or-miss affair. Can't really compare Kuching's curry mee to KL, Ipoh, Penang or Singapore's curry mee however as it's uniquely Kuching style. As for Kuching street food curry mee, I think only these two are worth mentioning. (so far). Do you have any of your favorites? 6. Mmmm... made some egg kaya last Sunday. Instead of using pandan leaves, I used organic Madagascar Vanilla Bourbon beans (the thin, long dark object sitting on the glass tumbler...) to flavor the kaya. Man, oh man.... ze aroma! Ze perfume! Ze flavor! Ze creaminess! And the tiny seeds add a unique character to the kaya. I had it on home made cumin bread and it's mine, all mine!! ;-) Wanna an apple pie ala mode instead? Home made with toffee vanilla ice cream. The ice cream was stored bought but next time, I'll make my own vanilla ice cream. With Madagascar Vanilla Bourbon beans, of course. ';-)
7. One of the neighbors popped over today with a bag of wild lemons. Mmmm... great timing for a hot day. How come that it seems that I'm the only one posting here... ? Mmmmmm... I know a great place in Kuching for good curry noodles, Kuching style. Anyone interested?
8. Made fresh pineapple jam today from Sarawak Sarikei pineapples, small in size but very sweet. Natural light + one strobe And the Ang Ku Kuih (or Red Tortoise Cake) Cheers!
9. Got me a nice piece of sting ray today. Good weather so it's about time I use natural light for this one and make it look kinda vintage. Kinda funny most of the time when I'm about done with natural light photography, it threatens to rain ';-P
10. I'm so sad... the recipe for the Singapore Chili Crab did not turn out to be that good. So... no photo opportunity. ':-( Must review the recipe again and test test test until right. Hope I do not have to eat up the whole crab population in Sarawak before it gets right. On the other hand, this is Dabai Nuts... very popular in Sarawak and it's seasonal. The best is reputed to come from Sibu and the sample below cost RM45 per kilo. I'm not a fan of Dabai however but the flavor is a little nutty.
11. Nice! Razor Clams and Sea Breams. Our local razor shells are quite small compared to those coming in from New Zealand. Have been hunting for crabs. Found a vendor in the morning market selling them for RM38 per kilo for slightly medium ones. ;-(. The first vendor caters to the high income market and I refuse to pay through my nose for sub-standard goodies. Finally found another vendor in another noon market selling slightly smaller crabs ones for RM17.00... that's was all he had. So sad. In KL, I would drive up to Sungei Besar via Klang Port using the old road. On my last trip there, I found big sized crabs for only RM25.00 but that was years ago. In Blacktown, Sydney, we bought monsters weighting close to two kilos per crab for only AUD18.00. Even after the currency conversion, it's still cheap. Just send the whole afternoon photographing them. Not very co-operative models and they refused to sit still. ';-)
12. I love good bread. Hard to find good breads in Kuching, however. So I prefer to make my own breads.
13.
That's nice. I think some of my friends might be interested in what you have to offer. I will keep them posted. Thanks!
Thanks for the reply. Eldred Lim @ Blinztree BTW, Blinztree at FB is not my account.
14.
wow, look so nice and delicious
Thanks Shero. With Hari Raya Phusa in full swing now, Chinese New Year is not too far away so Kuih Kapit, Kuih Sepit or Chinese Love Letters is on my mind now ;-) Planning to make my own to get prefect specimens. That reminds me... I'm going to shoot Singapore Chili Crabs soon... lots of spicy, tomato red oozing gravy and some golden brown home made fried buns ;-) Now, I'm feeling hungry!
15. Finally perfected my home made Chwee Kueh, otherwise known as Chinese Rice Water Cakes after several attempts spanning several months... And a creative twist to the traditional Savory Yam Cake by add pumpkin and sweet potatoes. This bad boy sings of sweet, salty, spicy and a hint of the sea because of the dried prawns (har bee...) boosted by a home made sambal balachan... yummmmmy
