Recently a GNC store opened in eastcoast Mall Kuantan...Just wondering if anyone tried any of the products for weight loss? Hows the price? Is it expensive?
Paul79SoFL
The GNC store does have a lot of good products but be careful of the weight loss products that have stimulant drugs. They can cause health problems if you use them too much.

The vitamins and nutritional supplements at GNC are good but you still have to work out some to get the weight loss. smile.gif

Yep agreed. Do not believe in taking 'magic pill' to lose weight. Plus GNC is very pricey anyways.

i saw the L-Carnitine from GNC. does it really work?
Immortal25

wizzly

Immortal25

For protein have tried Optimum Nutrition (ON) Whey. They have a couple of flavors like strawberry, chocolate, vanilla. The tubs used to cost $299 but now they cost $399, after less than 1 year. There is about 80 scoops in there, so if you take once daily will last you a few months .. if you take more then of course last less.
Immortal25
Wow.. RM399?! Hmm.. 80 scoops, this must be the big bucket eh?
darkrose
^^
Yeah think it is 5 lbs bucket. Worth it since it is filled to the top and there's a scoop in it. Each scoop is also quite huge probably over 2 tbsp. Mine has lasted about a year since i only take it on weekdays 1x a day only after workout or for breakfast .. but not consistent rofl.
Anders
Smile... i can get it for RM 290 for ON 100% Whey 5lbs if you are interested.
However for my opinion, you should take the protein per your body weight.

No workout -> 0.8g protein per kg body weight. Eg, 50kg take 40g protein per day.
Do endurance (cardio) -> 1.2 - 1.4g per body weight
Do weigth (resistance) -> 1.4 - 1.8g per body weight
Stright diet (low carbo) -> 2.0g per body weight

GNC price tag is a bit high most of the time, but you can go for it by being their member and purchase when they have promotion or during your birthday. They give good discount.

Bear in mind, most the products in the market works well with exercise...

Best goes with low fat milk if you are looking at meal replacement. oh ya... go with yogurt if you can... works well that way

Check it out here: Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnitine
As a weight loss supplement"Although L-carnitine has been marketed as a weight-loss supplement, there is no scientific evidence to date to show that it improves weight loss. A recent study of moderately overweight women found that L-carnitine did not significantly alter body weight, body fat, or lean body mass. Based on the results of this one small study, claims that L-carnitine helps reduce weight are not supported at this time." [12]

Regular supplements of L-carnitine, however, contribute to energy metabolism and improved neurotransmitter function in the brain.[13]

To thread started, find out what are the ingredients used in the product that you are buying that stimulate fat loss.

Generally most of them contain high caffeine which is the main ingredient to stimulate fat loss. But caffeine based fat loss products will only work if you consume + workout/train/exercise.
However, people who are addicted to caffeine will suffer from reduction in insulin sensitivity, meaning if they consume too much carbs, they will get fat easier than before.
You may try Nescafe kosong or Green Tea as a substitute for caffeine based fat loss pills.

GNC are selling stuffs that are way overpriced.
Try Egonutritions instead, they have wider range of Sports Nutrition compared to GNC and at a cheaper selling price.

Most of their staff are bodybuilders + supplement users as well. Since there is no one sided answer to which is the best supplement(eg vitamin, protein shake etc) , you may ask them for their personal experience on the various type of supplement available that they've used.

Assuming they are consuming protein shake, they either consume it as pre-workout or post-workout, its to support muscle growth as proteins are known as our body building block.

And no, they are not for body building ( as what you called muscle building ) only, it can be for general health maintenance.

protein is building block. its most important nutrien needed for our body. hormones, your hair, muscle and cell recovery all need protein
Asian consume too little protein, hence they're small
